Long-time Cinnamon Shore enthusiasts, the Wiggans family of San Antonio, Texas, have witnessed our community’s evolution firsthand. “It’s been fun to just kind of grow up as Cinnamon Shore also grows up,” says homeowner Melissa Wiggans.

Melissa and husband Scott have been visiting the Texas Gulf Coast with their daughters Brooke, 11, and Blair, 9, for nearly a decade. In 2019, they purchased a coastal cottage at Cinnamon Shore North. Then they set out to build an oasis from the ground up at Cinnamon Shore South in 2022.

Melissa Wiggans envisioned an elegant yet fun ambiance for the beach-side escape.

Guests can’t help noticing the exquisite agate backsplash in the kitchen, the funky fish light in the bunk room, and colorful laundry room tile work. Melissa found joy in hunting for unique pieces. “It was really fun to get to make each room and bathroom kind of its own little vignette of a story,” she says. With the help of Nicole Michaud of Colorful Transformations by Nicole, Melissa incorporated her finds into a cohesive plan capturing the whimsy of seaside living.

Nestled between natural dunes and manicured green space, their lot at 331 Tailwind Drive evokes serenity while retaining proximity to South’s best amenities. Driven to share the magic of Cinnamon Shore with loved ones, Melissa curated every aspect of this one-of-a-kind retreat. She wanted to design “Holiday House” “for making memories with family and…to accommodate groups,” she says.

She executed the vision with the help of trusted industry pros. “It was really the first time I built anything. So, I’m sure I made mistakes along the way, but [the team] helped guide me,” Melissa says.

Working with architects at Davies Collaborative, the Wigganses designed a floor plan tailored to guests’ privacy and comfort. Each floor features a kitchenette and lounge space. Melissa placed the kitchen on the first floor so guests could “spill out onto the park when grilling,” taking advantage of the lot’s neighboring green space. Veterans of Cinnamon Shore’s rental program with the North property they still own, the Wiggans knew the types of convenient extras to include, such as service closets on each level and dual washers/dryers.

As the project neared completion, Melissa admits she began feeling exhausted by the myriad of decisions. She recruited Kate Taylor of Kate Taylor Living to navigate the final interior design chapter. “She really took the reins of furnishing it and did a really nice job,” Melissa says. A true saving grace, Kate brought the order and haste Melissa wanted. “Kate did a fabulous job and really put it together so quickly. I was really impressed with her design skills,” Melissa says.

While Melissa spearheaded the endeavor, it was truly a family affair. Melissa and Scott enjoyed home-planning date nights and allowed their daughters to make selections and even name the retreat. “Holiday House” is a nod to the home owned by the girls’ favorite pop star, Taylor Swift. The four adore their completed retreat and enjoy sharing the space with visitors. Their positive experience only strengthened the Wiggans’ admiration for Cinnamon Shore, with Melissa alluding to the potential of more projects in our community in the family’s future.
